Our corporate culture is no-nonsense and pragmatic. We are looking for parties that fit in with this and can switch flexibly; Root3 is such a party. – Bart Overbeek

The Sting is a Dutch fashion chain with a presence both in physical stores and online. The company is characterized by a no-nonsense mentality, with humor and freedom as core values. In 2016, The Sting expressed the desire to use iPad minis in their stores. Bart Overbeek, Head of IT at The Sting, approached Root3 with this request, leading to an efficient solution from Root3 to set up the iPads.

“Due to our company culture, we prefer to have things under our own control,” says Bart Overbeek. “We outsource only to a limited extent, and that applies to a large part of our IT as well. However, we have many creative people in our office who are used to working with macOS because design software works well on that platform. Our internal knowledge of macOS is limited, so for several years we have relied on the knowledge and expertise of Root3. They assist our Mac users once every two weeks with all their questions and issues.”

iPad minis in The Sting stores

“In 2016, we decided that we wanted to use iPad minis in our stores,” continues Overbeek. “We wanted a solution where the iPads would have an ordering capability for store employees. This way, employees can assist customers if a particular item is not available in the desired size or color in the store.”

Root3 ensures that The Sting can conveniently install the custom-built software on all iPads. This means that when you turn on an iPad in The Sting, it automatically receives the appropriate software. This allows us to remotely manage our mobile devices, including remotely blocking them, installing or updating software.

Benefits for The Sting

You may wonder if this setup has resulted in time and cost savings for The Sting. Bart Overbeek says, “Probably both, because by configuring it in this way, we can easily provide software for our iPads. In this manner, Root3 has contributed to The Sting being able to benefit from several functionalities and advantages of Apple products.”

Bart Overbeek is satisfied with Root3’s way of working: “They are very eager to highlight these useful configurations. In our case, they identified the opportunity well. We didn’t make specific agreements regarding the involvement of Root3. We asked them for help, but we didn’t need to create a detailed plan. The people at Root3 were simply flexible and responsive. This also aligns with our company culture: no-nonsense, pragmatic, and with a lot of freedom. We always seek partners who fit that profile and can flexibly collaborate with us, and Root3 is one such party.”
