Together with Root3, we have managed to professionalize the management of our Apple devices – Wesley Noorhoff

Imbema, a family business, has been assisting organizations in creating safe and efficient work environments for 75 years. Recently, Imbema migrated from Windows to Mac, and the need arose to better manage and control all Apple devices.

Imbema, like Root3, has a strong relationship with Apple Haarlem. Apple approached Root3 in 2017 because Imbema was already using Profile Manager. However, Root3 determined that the configuration was suboptimal, as Profile Manager as an MDM solution did not offer sufficient capabilities to support Imbema’s environment. As a result, Root3 introduced Jamf Pro in early 2019 to further professionalize the entire Mac management at Imbema.

Benefits of Jamf Pro

With this new setup, management has become more professional and faster. Wesley Noorhoff, IT Manager at Imbema, explains that previously it took around 4 hours to install a Mac, whereas now it only takes a maximum of 30 minutes per device. The management process has also become more proactive, as Jamf Pro allows them to anticipate potential issues in advance. Updates are carefully examined before implementation. Through Jamf Pro, they can now execute updates in a controlled and managed manner at the most convenient time for their users. This ensures uninterrupted work and prevents Macs from unexpectedly restarting for updates during working hours.

Sophos instead of McAfee

Additionally, switching from McAfee to Sophos has led to improved user experience at Imbema. Noorhoff explains, “We previously had McAfee running on the Mac devices, but it turned out to be a challenging combination. On Root3’s recommendation, we switched to Sophos, a more Mac-oriented antivirus scanner, and the problems in that area were also resolved.”

Proactive Partnership with Root3

Noorhoff views Root3 as a valuable partner. “They understand us well and regularly visit us. Not only to address what they have already implemented, but also to explore new possibilities. They are a pleasant partner who is well-informed, has a strong connection with Apple, and provides excellent advice. They are constantly seeking improvements and are highly proactive.”

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Noorhoff shares Imbema’s future plans. “In the future, Apple will directly send the device to our employees, with all rights and settings preconfigured through Jamf Pro. The employee will unpack their MacBook themselves, which is already a pleasant experience, and then the installation process begins fully automated. Additionally, we want to set up a self-service portal that can be accessed from every Mac through Jamf Pro, to provide various forms of user support. Lastly, we aim to further integrate our Office 365 landscape into the Mac environment.” There are plenty of plans on the horizon for Imbema in collaboration with Root3.
