How does an MDM work?

Mobile Device Management or MDM is a lightweight management framework that Apple has built into their products and made available to developers to create device management solutions. MDM supports configuration for apps, accounts, settings and data on any device. This includes integrated features such as password and policy enforcement. Controls remain transparent to employees and ensure their personal information remains private. And if a device is ever lost, it can be securely wiped remotely.

We work with several solutions such as Jamf, Microsoft, Ivanti (MobileIron) and Kandji. Because we know the strengths of each solution and know your needs and challenges, we can help you get the right MDM solution. We also know the capabilities of MDM and Apple, helping you get started more focused and faster.

Why use MDM within your organization?

Whether you are a start-up or an established company, MDM solutions are here for you. They are indispensable for businesses that want to get the most out of their Apple devices, whether your team is working remotely or helping customers onsite.

What can MDM do for you?

Once Apple devices are enrolled in MDM, there are a wide range of tools to manage them:

  • Configurations consist of payloads that load settings and authorization information onto Apple devices. Configuration profiles automate the configuration of settings, accounts, restrictions and login information.
  • Commands can perform specific actions on devices, such as installing apps, remotely wiping a device or installing a software update.
  • Policies can complete custom tasks, such as installing non-Mac App Store apps or running scripts.

How will MDM impact users?

Implementing MDM on Apple devices will not compromise employee privacy or disrupt their daily work. Regardless of the deployment model, the management framework can never access personal information, including email, messages and browser history.

This means that features and devices are not locked or disabled across the board, and the use and collection of data is limited, whether the device is owned by your organization or the employee.

What is supervision?

Supervision gives educational institutions and businesses more control over their owned devices. Supervision allows the administrator to set additional restrictions, such as disabling AirDrop or blocking access to the App Store. In addition, more device configurations and features can be set, such as automatically updating apps or filtering Internet usage.
